- Apple’s Macbook Air starts at $999
- Has the best battery life of any Apple laptop and new ultrafast M1 chip
There are a huge number of laptops, Chromebooks and other options out there – but we think the Apple Macbook Air is the best laptop for seniors.
If you’re on a tight budget, then a Chromebook could be a better option – and we’ve got a guide to the best Chromebook for seniors.
However, if you can afford it, the Macbook Air is the ultimate in easy to use machines that’ll let you do everything from stream video to play the latest games.
Apple M1 chip
The Macbook Air is the first laptop to feature Apple’s M1 chip, which the firm developed in house (previously Macs have relied on Intel chips).
It’s incredibly fast, and has far better battery life than most of the competition.
Apple is transitioning all of its Macs over to this chip, which is based on the same chip used in the iPhone and iPad.
Apple boasts that in the MacBook Air, M1 is faster than the chips in 98 percent of PC laptops sold in the past year.
Boosted battery life
The new chip also dramatically improves battery life, and Apple says the new Macbook Air can last for 18 hours on a single charge if you’re watching video, and up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing.
Reviews of the machine go further, saying its possible to measure battery in days rather than hours, meaning you’ll no longer need to panic looking for your laptop charger every few hours.
Big Sur software
Of course the software is what makes or breaks a computer, and the Macbook Air Runs Big Sur, the latest version of MacOS software.
It’s excellent, and if you can afford the extra cost of a Mac, we think its the best, easiest to use operating system out there.
